Julie Dobbs, Project NOW adviser, explains a supernatural phenomenon that she has experienced along with other quirks about herself.

What was the first thought you had this morning?
I hit snooze three times.
If you were to join the circus, what show or attraction would you perform?
Certainly not the high wire, because I’m terrified of heights. I’d probably sell cotton candy. Everyone likes cotton candy.
Has anything supernatural-feeling ever occurred to you in your lifetime?
When my son was younger, he would constantly say “hi” to someone in the bathroom. One morning he was screaming at the top of his lungs in the shower saying “the boy in the red hat” scared him. My son was constantly saying he could see the boy.
Do you believe it was real or do you think there’s a logical explanation for what happened?
I’m really not sure. It used to make me kind of nervous, though.
If you could breed two animals together to defy the laws of nature what new animal would you create?
That’s a fun question. A platypus and a skunk. Don’t ask me why.
If you could have personally witnessed any event in history, what would it have been?
Well I wouldn’t want to be on the Titanic. I would say the Emancipation Proclamation. That would be exciting to witness.
What is the longest you’ve went without sleep?
Probably not long. I like to sleep. I would say around 24 hours when I was having one of my sons.
If you could have one meal for the rest of your life, and only that meal, what would you choose?
Cotton candy. Totally kidding, taco salad because it’s just a delicious, easy to cook meal.
If you could wake up tomorrow in the body of someone else, who would you choose?
If I could be someone else I’d be Ashley Judd. She’s so talented and pretty. I would want her to play me in a movie.
What would you do once you were her?
I don’t know, enjoy my mansion, have massages and stuff.
What is one guilty pleasure that you enjoy too much to ever give up?
Sleeping in… occasionally. Especially on a rainy day.
Do you prefer routine and habits or are you more geared towards spontaneity?
Spontaneity for sure. I love surprises.
What is your biggest fear or phobia?
Dying before my kids are grown.
If you could eliminate one weakness or limitation in your life, what would it be?
I would definitely get more of a filter [in conversation].
Describe yourself in three words.
Optimistic, open-minded, and quirky.
What about yourself are you most proud of?
My cliché answer is being the best mom ever, but I would say raising kind children.
If you could retire tomorrow, what would you do?
I would travel to new places all the time. Probably somewhere warm like a beach, or some old historic sites.
What is it about your job that you love the most?
I love getting to meet and build relationships with students, and to see their confidence grow as they succeed and recognize their own strengths. That’s the best part. I have a great job.
How long have you been working for Crowder in the Project NOW program?
I’ve been at Crowder for 18 years, and a part of Project NOW for 13 years.
What is your favorite memory throughout your time here at Crowder?
Last May one of my students were selected to be our graduation speaker, and I didn’t listen to her speech or anything before hand, so the first time I heard it was at graduation. She talked about me and the impact that our connection had on her decision to complete college, and although that was embarrassing to me because I don’t like a lot of attention like that, it really made me feel like my work has purpose.
