Crowder College received an anonymous $1 million donation on July 11, 2014, being the largest anonymous donation the college has received for a non-capital project.

“The donor didn’t want us to build something, they truly want us to spend it on things that are directly related to student learning and student experiences,” said Dr. Jennifer Methvin, president of Crowder College

While no specifics are set for what areas the money will go towards as of yet, the possibility of creating new programs at Crowder or expanding existing ones are being considered, along with scholarships and other student related needs.  However, one thing has already been decided; half the money will be invested so the earned interest can be used to support the programs the other half will go towards for years to come.

“They [the donor] consider education very important and they want to help other people get an education,” said Cindy Branscum, director of institutional advancement, relating the reason behind the donors gift to the college, “and so they’ve observed Crowder and feel that Crowder is doing a good job, and is affordable and accessible to many people that might not be able to go to college otherwise.”

While plans for how the money will be used are still in the preliminary stage, more information concerning the donation and its results will be available later this fall.
