Danielle Smith, the new assistant coach for the Lady ‘Riders softball team started in Jan., just before the team prepares to embark upon their 2013 – 14 season start on Feb. 14.
“I knew it was a respectable program,” said Smith. “I wanted to continue coaching.”
Smith, who hails Bridge Creek, Okla. as her hometown, comes to Crowder with experience while she is working on completing her Master’s degree.
Having already completed her Associates of Arts and a Bachelors of Science degree, Smith is currently working on her Master’s Degree from East Central University.
Smith plans to graduate with a Master’s degree of Education in sports administration in July 2013.
In addition to the time Smith has spent playing the game, she has also spent time on the field as a coach for two years at other respectable colleges.
“I plan to be an assistant coach for a while,” said Smith. “I hope to become a head coach.”
“It’s been good [having Smith on the field],” said Madison Barnes, #11 freshman pitcher. “It was different at first because she’s coming into a different setting with us being together for a while now.”
“It’s good now. We understand her and she understands us now,” said Barnes.
“I definitely have some high expectations,” said Smith. “I know they went to Nationals last year. I would like them to return this year.”
Smith’s advice for her girls’ is simple: “You got to go out and give it your all. What are you willing to put forth when no one’s looking.”
The Lady ‘Riders begin their 2013 season over the road taking on Northern Oklahoma in Tonkawa, Okla. on Feb. 14 starting at 2 p.m.
The women will then return for their first home game on Sat., Feb. 16 against Lakeland and
Rose College for the Crowder Spring Festival beginning at 2 p.m.
