Taking the high cost out of makeup

So many choices, so many products!

College students have enough to worry about without having to worry about spending all their money on makeup. Shopping for beauty products can be overwhelming. There are so many colors, brands, formulas and different options to choose from.

Many people get the idea that if it costs a ton of money then it must work and if it’s cheap it will be a waste of money, but this is not true on all accounts. Great beauty items can be found at the drugstore for decent prices.

Students are not only on a tight budget, but busy with homework and life that don’t have time for a strenuous beauty routine. These products are the basics to get your routine off to a great start then more products can be added to it at ones choice.

We have tested multiple products and have discovered some really great products to help you save money while looking great. We all know that every woman’s skin is different, but these are items that we believe can work for everyone.

Face

Let’s start with the basics. Foundation can come in many forms; liquid, cream or powder. Its purpose is to create even color to the complexion to help cover flaws or blemishes

Many foundations can cost up to $50 a bottle but Rimmel London Lasting Finish 25 Hr foundation can be found at local drugstores for around $6.75. This is a liquid foundation is available in 10 different shades and wears really light on the skin to last all day without fading.

Rimmel London also makes a fantastic pressed powder. The Stay Matte powder will cost you roughly $3.97 and helps set the liquid foundation for a flawless finish to help your makeup last all day and combat oil control.

Blush is an important part of any beauty routine. Blush can give you a subtle wash of color to make your skin glow and look healthy. Covergirl Cheekers blush comes in a variety of shades from dark browns to bright pinks. A color that is great for everyone is Plumberry Glow. This is a gorgeous pink with a hint of shimmer that works for fair or dark skin tones. Covergirl Cheekers can be purchased for around $3.99.

During the winter months our skin can look pale and lifeless. Give your skin a boost with some bronzer. N.Y.C. bronzer in Sunny can work on fair to dark skin tones to contour your cheekbones, jaw line and forehead with. This bronzer retails for a whopping $2.99 at most drugstores.

Eyes

For eye shadow that lasts all day an eye shadow primer can be your best friend. Eye shadow primers help smooth out the veins in the eyelid and prevent your eye shadow from creasing. A good drugstore primer is L’Oreal De-Crease Eye Shadow Base costing around $8.50. This step is optional but will prevent creasing and fading for up to eight hours. This is a one shade fits all formula.

Eye shadow can make your eyes really pop. For a great eye shadow trio that won’t break your pocketbook try Wet ‘N’ Wild Color Icon eye shadow trios. These trios come with three different colors that are labeled so you know where to put them. A great neutral eye look can be achieved with the trio of Walking on Eggshells or to add a little drama for a smokey eye try Silent Treatment. These trios can be found at local drugstores for around $2.99 a piece.

Some women shy away from using eyeliner. This is not a must have step but helps define the eyes and makes them look larger. For newbie’s to eyeliner try a light brown shade or a deep purple. Those who are more adventurous try a bright eyeliner or a black for more definition. One can try Maybelline Unstoppable waterproof eyeliner for eyeliner that won’t smudge or budge throughout the day. This is a crayon type liner which can be sharpened and glides on smoothly. Maybelline can be found at drugstores for around $5.94.

Everyone wants thicker fuller lashes. There are numerous types of mascara out there and everyone prefers their own formula. Some like a dryer formula and some like a thin brush. It is all personal preference when it comes to mascara. Just a recommendation would be L’Oreal Voluminous mascara. It comes in three different shades and has a medium sized brush. With a dryer formula this mascara applies without clumping lashes together and runs around $5.95.

Lips

Maybelline Color Sensational lip colors come in every shade one could imagine. There is a shade for everyone and these lipsticks feel great on the lips. The pigmentation of these colors never disappoints and they are affordable at $7.49.

Revlon is in the running for great lip products. The Revlon Just Bitten Kissable lip stains are just that, a lip stain. These deposit a brilliant color with a glossy finish. After the initial color wears off a soft stain is left behind. These chubby retractable pencils do not need a sharpener and can be purchased for $7.48.

For glossy lips that shine for hours try N.Y.C City Proof 8 Hour lip-gloss. These glosses go on smooth and leave lips feeling moisturized. This 2-in-1 product moisturizes like a balm but provides lasting color like a gloss. Many different shades can be found for $3.99
