Brother Bear is an upcoming band from the Neosho area, and they’re certainly a band I would recommend checking out.

They started in May of 2012, and their fan base has been slowly growing ever since. They have a unique heavy sound, with influences from bands like August Burns Red, the Devil Wears Prada, and As I Lay Dying.

“Our biggest actual influence is just to make something different, like nothing that’s currently out there,” says drummer Shiloh Sonis.

Making something different is one goal they have definitely accomplished, their heavy sound being unlike anything else out right now. They just dropped their newest single Six Feet Isn’t Deep Enough, and when listening to it on YouTube, it’s hard not to give it a replay.

They have pretty big plans for the future, including a full length EP and eventually touring. “We’re going to have an EP ready by the Fall, probably by September,” says Sonis. “We really enjoy playing music more than having a regular job. I mean, eventually we want to sign to label. But we don’t want to sell out; I know everyone really says that, but I don’t see us changing.”

You can find Six Feet Isn’t Deep Enough on their Facebook page, and mark your calendars for March 17th (St. Patrick’s Day) because that’s the date of their return show at the Solace Music Venue in Joplin. It will certainly be worth the small $10 entry fee, as they’re going to be opening for Mouth of the South, Saving Grace and War of Ages, and I have a feeling it won’t be a show you want to miss.
