Every year for the past ten years Crowder College has held a campus activity in an effort to try and give back to people less fortunate as part of the Christmas season. This year marks the 11th annual Giving Tree.
This is an event where certain families are chose to have their ‘Angel’ put on the tree in the Farber building on the Neosho campus. These Angels represent a gift being bought for a child of a Crowder College student. Students or staff than ‘adopt’ an angel and buy a gift for the child somewhere between $30-$50.
The adoption process is simple. After you pick an angel you write down your name under “sponsor name” on one side of the Angel and drop that portion of the Angel in the Gift box by the Angel Tree. You then keep the other side of the Angel. After this you purchase your gifts and then return the Angel and the gifts to the Campus Life Office by December 3rd. Wrapping is not necessary as their will be a ‘’wrapping party’’ once all the gifts have been returned.
Every family is also given a food basket and a turkey and the bookstore will also donate shirts to the parents this year.
Monday, Nov. 18 marked the day the angels went up for adoption.
To be eligible to be one of the families you must also be eligible for the Pell grant with an angel representing each dependent. This year 45 families are being helped with the total number of children coming to 110. Families can be from any of the satellite campuses.
The application was done through Nov. 3-15. The families will all pick up their gifts on Dec. 9.
