Cooking on the Edge: Honey-Cola BBQ Wings

Jesse O. Walls

In my household chicken wings are a crowd-pleaser, and this wing recipe has been a favorite at potlucks and parties I have attended. The cola acts as a meat tenderizer, making the wings tender and succulent while adding a distinct hint of flavor to the sweet and tangy marinade. Great for picnics or potlucks, these wings can be a little messy, so be sure to pack extra napkins.

Ingredients

4 lbs. chicken wingettes
1 can cola (I prefer Cherry Dr. Pepper)
2 cups tomato sauce
½ tsp. chipotle chili pepper
½ cup honey
4 garlic cloves
1 tbsp. paprika
2 tbsp. soy sauce

Directions

Place chicken wingettes in a greased baking pan.  Bake at 350° for 35-40 minutes or until meat thermometer reads 170°.

In a large bowl, combine remaining ingredients, mix thoroughly and pour into a 3-qt. slow cooker.  Add chicken to slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 1-2 hours.

So if you’re looking for a quick, easy fix for your next family get-together or church potluck, try these delectable wings – they’re sure to please any crowd.

Bon appétit.
