Decoding Halloween history

Today, Halloween is all about candy, costumes, and pranks. But, what most people don’t realize is that Halloween has an actual history. According to Halloweenhistory.org, it is believed that Halloween got its start from the ancient Celtic festival Samhain (pronounced “sah-win”). The festival was held at the end of the Gaelic harvest season. The “Gaels” of that time period believed that at the end of October, the living and the dead worlds merged. When this happened, the dead would come up from their graves, and wreak havoc on the local villages. Samhain consisted of multiple bonfires. The tradition of costumes started when the Gaels wore costumes to impersonate and settle down the evil spirits.
