Josh Harvey, high school baseball star, is hanging up his cleats to focus his time on his education and dreams while here at Crowder College.

Where are you from?

Reeds Spring, Mo.

How far is Reeds Spring from Neosho?

It is about an hour and a half.

What’s it like being so far from home?

It’s awesome. I love being able to make my own choices and just be independent.

Why did you choose Crowder College?

I wanted to save money and go to a school where I kind of knew some people.

How long have you attended Crowder here in Neosho?

This is my first year.

Are you enjoying Crowder so far?

Yes, I like having small classes and it’s nice that it’s a smaller campus because it doesn’t take me more than about five minutes to get to each class.

What’s your least favorite thing about college/Crowder so far? What’s your favorite?

I’m not a huge fan on how much it costs for classes, food, necessities; but it is a lot cheaper than other places. My favorite thing is definitely the smaller classes. I feel like I follow along better with what’s going on in the classroom.

Did you attend any of the welcoming activities? If so, what ones?

Yes, I attended the ice cream social and the bowling.

What are you majoring in?

General Studies. I’m not sure what I want to major in yet.

If you had to decide on a major right now, what would you choose?

I would probably choose Air Space Engineer.

What’s holding you back from doing that?

I don’t know if I would enjoy doing that for the rest of my life.

Has it been hard transitioning from high school to college?

Yeah, it’s really different because I always have someone in my dorm, I have to buy my own snacks, and there is a lot more free time.

What has been the hardest thing to get used to?

Making sure I have all my homework done and not procrastinating. I usually have a day between my classes, so it’s harder to keep up with everything.

What do you miss most about high school?

I miss the relationships that I had with my classmates and my teachers.

Did you play any sports in high school? If so, what did you play?

I played baseball and ran cross-country.

What position did you play in baseball?

I played second base.

What was your favorite memory from high school?

Definitely baseball. I liked having that relationship with the teammates and just the game in general.

Do you play baseball here at Crowder?

No, I thought about trying out. However, I don’t think I would enjoy all the time that they spend in practice.

Could you see yourself playing baseball possibly after awhile here at Crowder, or are you done for good?

I’m debating on playing next year, or at least trying out.

What are your hobbies? Favorites?

Watch movies (Never Back Down), play video games (Halo), listen to music (Linkin Park), and sleep.

And last but not least, what is your favorite quote?

“When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, that is when you will be successful” – Eric Thomas
