How long have you been a student at Crowder?
This is my first semester here, so about a month now.

Are you from this area? If not, how do you feel about the campus and being away from home?
No, I’m actually from Springfield, and I really like the campus and feel like it’s a pretty homey place to be. I actually don’t like the town as much as I like Crowder, which tells you how much the campus really makes up for being away from home.

Are you a full time or part time student here?
I’m a full time student.

What are you majoring in?
I’m in the Vet Tech program here at Crowder studying to be a Veterinarian Technician.

Why did you choose Crowder?
It was the closest Vet Tech School in this area.

Do you feel like Crowder is a good college?
Well it’s the only college I have gone to so far, so I don’t have anything to compare it to other than that though I feel like it’s a pretty good college.

What is your job here at the Student Success Center?
I am kind of like a receptionist. I sit at a desk, answer the phone, try to help students if I can. I make appointments for them with the advisors or if they need to schedule a test or if they try to come here for testing, which we no longer do testing here, I just direct them in the right direction.

What do you like most about your on campus job?
I can study while I’m here, I get free food, and although I’m working I’m having fun as well.

What do you like least about your job?
It can get boring at times, and since I’m sitting down not moving a lot in my office I get cold too.

Would you suggest Crowder to a friend?
I have already suggested Crowder to a couple of my friends that like animals. I try to get them to take the Vet Tech program here like me.

How do you feel about having both classes and a job here on campus?
I think it’s really awesome because with the job here I can still study for the classes I’m taking and then I don’t ever have to leave campus and waste gas to get there.

Is there anything you feel the campus needs more or less of?
No, I think for a community college they are pretty set in what they do. They have all these clubs and activities they do and I don’t even know if there are other colleges that have so much going on all the time.

What’s your favorite class you’re taking so far this semester?
It would have to be my Animal Science class but, mainly the lab part of it, because we get to work with livestock animals which I never have done before. I get scared at times but it also can be really exciting as well.

Who do you look up to in life?
As a teenager, I’m a little reluctant to admit it, but I would have to say my mother. She was a single mom for a while, and she worked really long hours at her job and still took care of me. She had a pretty hard life and her being able to survive all that just makes me really admire her.

What are some hobbies of yours?
I like playing video games and listening to music.

Who do you feel has helped you the most in life?
It would have to be my mom again and also my Aunt Karen.

What gets you motivated to keep going even after you’ve had a bad day or are going through a hard time?
Well I keep motivated at school mainly because I’m paying for it, and in life I just know that it’s going to get better. It may be a while, but I’ve come from a dark place before and got back up so I know that it does get better at some point.

What is your dream job?
To be a veterinarian technician.

How did you decide that was your dream job?
Well originally I wanted to be a veterinarian, but after seeing how much money and schooling would have to be done in order to get that career, I chose the next best thing.

What advice might you give a freshman next year who would be getting ready to start in the same line of study as you?
I would say that for the classes you’ll be taking you need to have the ability to multi-task. You need to take notes, listen to the lectures, and read the material which is hard and I can’t really do it, but if you can learn how to it is going to help you out a lot.
