Lady ‘Riders defeat Cottey, 83-71

The Lady ‘Riders basketball team battled hard against Cottey College in the final game of the annual Don Wilson Classic on Nov. 16, defeating the Nevada, MO based school, 83-71.

After losing the first game of the tournament to Cowley County, 64-48, the night before, the Lady ‘Riders traded turns with Cowley of the lead during the first half. After Crowder emerged from the locker room after halftime with a score of 36-35, the two Missouri community college teams would then continue to take turns at leading the game, before scoring the much needed points with less than six minutes until the game’s conclusion. The Lady ‘Riders would not look back as they went on to score their fourth win of the young season.

Thays Barbosa, freshman #50, Tae’lor Monroe, freshman #10, and Dorian Briggs, sophomore #5, scored 15 points each, while Courtney Jones, freshman #3, scored 14 points. Ariana Gallegos, freshman #24, scored nine points, Mariana Silva, freshman #33, scored eight, while Lori Kleier, freshman #22, finished the game with three points. Tiffany Rhame, freshman #21, and Katie Hughes, freshman #15, each scored two points.

The Lady ‘Riders will travel to Labette, Kan. to take on Labette Community College on Nov. 20. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The next home game for the team is scheduled for Nov. 26 against Coffeyville. The game will commence at 6 p.m. in Bob Sneller Gymnasium.
