Ginelle Esry, received the $1000 Coco-Cola Leadership of Promise scholarship through the scholarship website listed on Phi Theta Kappa’s (PTK) page this semester. This scholarship program provides new PTK members with financial resources to help with educational expenses while enrolled in a two-year college in order to develop leadership potential through participation in various PTK programs, according to PTK.org.

The program awards up to 200 scholarships of $1,000 each, a total of $200,000 in scholarships annually. Of these awards, 25 scholarships are saved for current members of the military or military veterans. The Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship is the Society’s first scholarship program available to members to be used during the time they are enrolled in their community colleges.

“Ginelle Esry is a highly motivated student who takes scholarship opportunities seriously” said Delpha Crain, Chapter Leader of PTK on the Nevada campus.

“Having volunteer hours and getting involved in activities is important in getting any scholarship,” said Esry. “Scholarship judges look for well-organized applicants who can communicate honestly about their personal experiences. They don’t just want you to tell them what you think they want to hear; they like to know about you and what you’re going to be doing with the reward.”
