Notes from the Newsroom: Changing Faces

It has been said that change is the only constant in life, but there is nothing more painful than watching someone change faces right before your eyes. People are not always what they seem and in this day and age it seems so easy to be deceived by an angel’s smile when in truth a person’s intentions aren’t always good.

Lately I’ve been thinking about how people have a tendency to put others on pedestals, especially those who are undeserving, and in the end feel like they got burned. Everything is good as long as they’re wearing their rose-colored glasses, but once they finally see the truth they realize that the person wasn’t as perfect as they had first thought.

An experience in my life has revealed to me that sometimes we think the world of people who mean very little and forget or take for granted the people who make all the difference in the world. It’s as if we are incapable of prioritizing what truly matters and only want what is good for us at the time.

Think about it, if we consider what is truly important and the people who have always been there for us, would we not save ourselves from having to watch someone change faces right before our eyes? Could we not appreciate those who have been faithful and honest, rather than glorifying the shiny new object?

Friendship and love are both about respect and trust, and neither comes overnight. Take the time to consider what matters most, to strengthen relationships and learn who is really there for you and who is just along for the ride. It may take a little more time, but trust me, it’s worth it.
