Neosho Police Department is working with Crowder security to keep the campus safe.
The mission of the Department of Campus Safety and Security is to provide a safe and secure environment for students, employees and visitors, according to the July board meeting minutes.
The Neosho police department began working with campus security in September of 2016 and the agreement was recently renewed for the 2017/18 school year.
The agreement provides enhanced law enforcement services to Crowder and the surrounding area. According to the Intergovernmental Agreement Regarding Law Enforcement Services, Crowder College and the City of Neosho agree that the enhancement of security will be mutually beneficial to both parties.
Also stated in the agreement is Crowder will “provide at its expense” the facility for the police substation, and also the salaries for the officers. The city, with the help of Crowder College, will staff the substation with two full-time police officers.
Officers may also need to participate in special safety and enforcement projects on or relating to the campus.
The purpose of the agreement between the city and the college is to unify the community by boosting safety, hindering crime, and to make the campus a better place to reside, according to the Intergovernmental Agreement Regarding Law Enforcement Services.
“I have seen the officer around campus,” said Daniel De Santiago, Crowder student. “I didn’t know it was the police. I guess it is a good thing, because it keeps us safer.”
