Quentin Tarantino’s personality as a director shines through in Hollywood’s newest production of Once Upon A Time in Hollywood. It grips viewers with its intriguing plot line and abnormal twist on what was, and what could have been.

Once Upon A Time in Hollywood was released on July 26, 2019. It won an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. With an 85% approval rate, the two and a half hour film is rated R for graphic violence, drug use, and sexual references.

The movie begins showing actor Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his stunt double, Cliff (Brad Pitt) on set in a flashback from the main show they performed together. The interview really shows the connection between Rick and Cliff and opens the movie to many storylines that cross paths in unique ways.

The plot slows down and speeds up, flowing between the course of February to August. It shows the adventures of Rick and Cliff as Rick struggles with his personal decisions towards his acting career and Cliff tussles with everyday life problems.

Another truly engrossing part of the film is the twist it gives on the life of famous Sharon Tate (portrayed in the film by Margot Robbie). In real life, Tate was just one victim in the string of murders committed by Charles Manson.

In the film, however, Tarantino leaves the audience wondering if all the stories about Tate’s murder are really true.

Once Upon A Time in Hollywood is not the first popular Quentin Tarantino film out there. Pulp Fiction, From Dusk Till Dawn, Kill Bill, or Inglorious Bastards are also well-liked Tarantino films.

Tarantino’s way of telling a story is winding. He gives subtle hints in places that don’t seem to make sense, yet he ties it together at the end, bringing his characters and emotions full circle.

Watching Once Upon A Time In Hollywood a second time is recommended. It gives viewers a chance to appreciate the detailed filmwork and sincere acting that cast and crew put into it. There is so much composed, intense action that it is hard to catch it all the first time.

From the magic of a twisted sense of history to intense filmmaking, Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is definitely worth the watch.
