Red Barn delivers quality and quantity

At the end of last semester, my husband treated me to dinner at a new restaurant to celebrate my grades. We headed north out of Greenfield down 39 Hwy, turned east at the four-way stop in Stockton, and landed at the Red Barn Café. This is definitely my new favorite place to eat!

The large log cabin was welcoming from the outside, and pleasantly decorated on the inside. Everything from the lighting to the prominently displayed dessert cabinets promised a wonderful dinner. They absolutely delivered!

We were seated promptly. The pleasant waitress helped us prepare our order by explaining that the food was home-style cooking, and the portions were generous. She was not exaggerating.

The homemade rolls served with honey butter were the size of my husband’s hands. The meal filled oversized oval plates, and was perfectly cooked. There wasn’t anything we tried that wasn’t wonderful.

Our booth was close to the dessert display. Shelves of pies with the tallest meringue we had ever seen, several varieties of extra fancy cakes, cobblers, and even a display of fudge stared back at us daring us to try to fit in one more bite. We managed to share a dessert that was as wonderful as it looked.

Most meals this nice would have been too expensive for our budget, but we were pleasantly surprised at the reasonable prices. The next time we go, I think we’ll share a meal and order two desserts! We ended up bringing home enough food for each of us to have another meal.

The Red Barn Café is open seven days a week from 6 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Saturday, and 7 a.m.-3 p.m. on Sunday. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with a buffet on Sundays that includes a salad bar and dessert. Their menu offers everything from rib eyes and eggs, to burgers, fish, chops, and even a lighter side section for the health conscious.

Large rooms are available for private parties. I highly recommend the Red Barn Café at 510 E. Hwy 32, Stockton. For more information call 417-276-1151.
