T he Coleman theatre, located in Miami, Okla., is just a short, 30 minute drive away from the Neosho area and worth every mile. Ticket prices vary depending on the event, but students and senior citizens always receive a discounted price. With several events available throughout the upcoming months, it’s definitely worth marking some time off on the calendar.

Being an audience member for their double feature silent film production of “The Cheat” and “A Fool There Was” was a thrilling experience. These films were scandalous at the time of their release in the early 1900s. Dennis James, a traveling organist playing alongside these films, truly brought the screen to life.

“I think when you can come to a place like the Coleman Theatre which was opened in 1929, and see a film that was made in 1915, hear an organ, the Mighty Wurlitzer Pipe Organ which was built in 1928 and you get to experience all of that in one location, it’s the perfect setting, with the perfect musician, and storyteller,” said Theatre Director Shannon Duhon as reported by KOAM.

James will return again in May to show four short Charlie Chaplin classics. Show times are 7:30 p.m. May 23 and 2:30 p.m. May 24. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for students/children.

T here are several events taking place in April, including “an evening of swing” with Corky Davis & The Cowboy Swing Band, a seven-piece group that will perform Eastern and Western swing. The doors will open at 6 p.m. with the show beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for seniors, students and children.

The musical Godspell will be performed by the Miami Little Theatre, a community based non-profit organization also located in Miami, Okla. In this play, a group of people help Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a variety of games, storytelling techniques and comic timing. Show times are 7:30 p.m. April 23, 24 and 25 and 2:30 p.m. April 26, and tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and students.
