The Crowder TRIO program will host their first annual scholarship dodgeball tournament, benefiting TRIO scholarships, on May 3. The action starts at 10 a.m. in Bob Sneller Gymnasium on the Neosho campus.

Students, faculty and staff, as well as community members and businesses, are encouraged to sign up to participate. Their is no age limit for participants.

Individual teams of up to six players may sign up to participate by paying a $75 entry fee. Each participant must sign and turn in a liability waiver to the TRIO office, located on the second floor of Newton Hall, by April 25, in order to play. A maximum of 20 teams can participate.

Awards will be given to the first and second place teams on performance during the tournament. The crowd in attendance will also have the opportunity to vote for the “best dressed” award, as teams are encouraged to dress in uniform of whatever they wish to play in.

The goal of this tournament is to provide scholarship money through the TRIO program for anyone that wishes to start or continue obtaining their higher education at Crowder.

“The TRIO scholarship is offered to dual enrolled students at the high school level, as well as students enrolled at the college level,” said Vanessa Ellison, academic coordinator for math and science of south region. “Juniors and seniors in high school are eligible, as well as students here at Crowder.”

According to Ellison, obtaining funding is a key role in continuing to serve students’ financial needs while attending school.

“It’s important to any student that goes to this school, that they can benefit from this scholarship, if they’re eligible and they apply for this scholarship.”

Plans are currently in place to make this tournament an annual event.

Admission is free and a concession stand will be available for purchase of food and beverages. T-shirts will also be on sale at the tournament for $10.
