Crowder College has announced two new related certificate degrees for communication students: Digital Media Marketing and Photography.

“Students are surprised to hear they can get jobs using TikTok and Instagram, blogging, making social media posts, and developing websites,” said Latonia Bailey, coordinator of both programs.  “For students with communication expertise, there is a high demand with competitive salaries for employment in a variety of industry sectors.”

Beyond posting on social media, the courses teach how to choose and create content as part of a strategic marketing plan along with search engine optimization and online advertising analysis. Courses include hands-on practice in creating blogs, podcasts, videos, social media content, photography, pay-per-click strategies, email marketing, and website development. A new graphic design course featuring Adobe Illustrator is also part of the curriculum.

Students can earn the Digital Media Marketing certificate in one year and go directly into the workforce with hands-on experience from the courses. An optional internship class provides on-the-job training and often leads to a job offer.

The Digital Media Marketing certificate may also be stacked with the newly created Photography certificate or combined with an Associate of Arts degree for transfer to a university. In addition, the courses provide opportunity to complete industry-recognized credentials from Google, Hubspot, and Adobe.

Besides photography courses, the Photography certificate includes a new photo editing course focusing on Adobe Photoshop as well as electives relevant to students’ career goals such as Intro. to Business, 2D Art, and Intro. to Public Relations and Digital Marketing. Students may complete additional general education courses to earn an Associate of Art in Photography.

“Business leaders throughout the region have stated they need employees with these skills so their respective businesses are staying relevant with the varied markets they seek to enter,” said Dr. Katricia Pierson, President of Crowder College.
