Information on effects of cigarettes and vaping was given during Wellness week on campus at Crowder College by a local nursing student.

Warning

480,000 deaths related to cigerettes each year.

"most vapes contain nicotine. ultrafine particles that can be deeply inhaled into the lungs."

in 2021, 2.06 million U.S middle and highschool students used e-cigerettes in the past 30 days.

according to the CDC “In 2021, 2.06 million U.S. middle and high school students used e-cigarettes in the past 30 days, including 2.8% (320,000) of middle school students and 11.3% (1.72 million) of high school students.”

Traditional cigarettes have their own problems such as a build-up of tar and carcinogens within cigarettes but vapes have new risks. Such as coating your lungs with oil and causing popcorn lungs in which the bronchioles become inflamed or damaged.

“Most vapes contain nicotine, ultrafine particles that can be deeply inhaled into the lungs, flavoring such as diacetyl, a chemical linked to serious lung disease, volatile organic compounds, cancer-causing chemicals, and heavy metals such as nickel, tin, and lead.” According to the CDC

Asking about which one is better of the two? “I would recommend vapes because they are better for you because they don’t carry the tar or carcinogen, but they still carry their own risks.” Said Crowder nursing student.
