How can art help with mental health

The Crowder counseling center joins in wellness week with wellness through art. During wellness week, Emilee Curran, a PSU Counseling intern, ran the wellness through art booth. She had chosen two art exercises to share. The first one was the feelings wheel. “Sometimes it is hard to put all our emotions out into words. So, the wheel helps you draw your emotions, or put them in color.” Says Emilee. The second project she chose, was drawing something with your non dominant hand. “The purpose of this is to help you not focus on the details. When you use your non dominant hand, you know it won’t turn out the same as your dominant hand.” One thing that Emilee would like to share with the rest of the students on campus, is that the counseling office does have walk-in hours. They are Monday through Thursday 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. This is so that a student can come in and visit without making an appointment, in case they are having an emergency. The counseling office is located in the student center.
